What causes candida?

Candida albicans is a common yeast that is in every human on earth.  This organism is always present in small amounts in the human body and is not generally a problem unless it overgrows or converts into its mycelial fungal form.  Candida is pronounced as “can-de-duh”, but many people will also pronounce it as “can-dee-duh”.

But, how does one get the bad form of candida?  Antibiotics are the most common way to get candida.  However, other pharmacuetical drugs will also cause a candida overgrowth - Prednisone and chemotherapy treatments are  also big contributors; although not as common as antibiotics, they will create candida more aggressively than antibiotics will.  Another way to get candida in its bad form is through a lot of chronic stress.  Poor diet will also contribute to this condition.
