Magnesium Deficiency Symptoms

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

People with candida often struggle with nutritional deficiencies.  Magnesium is the very most common of these.  Candida makes your system acidic and your body will utilize its magnesium stores to try to keep your ph near a nuetral 7.0 ph. If your ph is acidic (less than 6.5) then you are probably deficient in minerals and will need to take a mineral supplement to help you balance your ph.  Magnesium seems to be one of the deficiencies that is very easy to determine if you have based on the symptoms that you experience.  If you are struggling with:

insomnia
muscle twitching
leg cramps
menstrual cramps
constipation
difficulty swallowing
headaches
a lump in the throat (severe deficiency)
anxiety
depression
panic attacks
heart palpitations or racing

you are magnesium deficient.  This is an easy fix!  Simply take an excellent magnesium supplement.  You want to take something that contains elemental magnesium as citrate or gluconate. The supplement should be delivered in a liquid form.  Natural Calm Magnesium is the very best supplement for resolving these symptoms quickly - sometimes in a matter of just a few minutes.  The BEST thing about this is that magnesium supplements are cheap! You can find some at: http://www.best-magnesium-citrate.com.

Heavy Metals and Candida

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

If you are having a difficult time getting rid of candida issues, it is possible that the underlying problem is heavy metal poisoning.  Heavy metals are on the periodic element chart; they are a metallic element that has a specific gravity higher than 5.0.  The specific gravity of a material is defined as the ratio of its density to the ratio of some standard material, such as water, at a specific temperature.  Heavy metals that are somewhat common to find in the human body would include arsenic, cadmium, lead, aluminum, uranium, tin and mercury.  These heavy metals occur naturally and can be found in the rocks and soils in the Northwest US and Canada.  Natural weathering of rocks and soil can cause the metals to be released into lakes and rivers, where sometimes these metals can even reach the aquifer.

Heavy metals are easier to pick up then most people would think; they come from many sources.  Mining industries, fossil fuels (coal and diesel), tobacco (smoking - another reason to quit), water sources (like wells), mercury fillings, vaccines, fish and even forest fires can release heavy metals into the environment and into our bodies.  Some heavy metal presence is not detrimental to your health, but if the metals become concentrated enough, the affect on your health can be devastating as heavy metals will accumulate in vital body organs like the brain, kidneys, liver and lungs.  Chronic illness that cannot be remedied accompanied with a very acidic body ph level (less than 6.5) may be an indication of heavy metals in the body.

One of the most effective ways to determine if you have a heavy metal issue is to have a hair mineral analysis done.  A hair analysis will tell you what types of metals are a problem for you, and how much metal is in your system.   Here is a description from www.meltdown.com which describes how a hair mineral analysis is done:

Once the lab receives the sample, it is logged in with its own control number. Then the sample is weighed and placed in different test tubes. Acids — like the ones in your stomach — are added to the sample to digest the hair. This process releases the elements locked in the hair matrix.

Once the digestion is complete, only the mineral salts remain in the tube. This is why it doesn’t matter if your hair is permed, colored or bleached or whether you used hair spray that day. That stuff is long gone before the actual testing begins.

Most of the elements are analyzed by an induction coupled plasma emission spectrophotometer. (Try to say that one fast! :) ) Mercury analysis, however, is done by an atomic absorption spectrophotometer.

Once the analysis is complete, the results are combined and transferred to a computer.

This test can be very helpful in determining if you have an issue. Tests can be ordered directly through the internet or from a health care provider. Chiropractors, Holistic and Naturopathic doctors are great sources to order a hair mineral analysis test for you.

If you do have a heavy metal concern, you need to find a way to get the metals out of your system.  One common method is chelation therapy.  According to wikipedia.org, Chelation therapy is a process involving the use of chelating agents (DMSA, DMPS, alph-lipoic acid) to remove heavy metals from the body. The chelating agents do seem to be specific to what type of heavy metal they will remove, so it is good to know what you are dealing with before you go have chelation done.  There are natural ways to remove heavy metals, too. Cilantro is a natual herb that will detox heavy metals.  Sea Kelp may also draw metals out of the body - I have used a product called Modifilan to pull uranium out of my system.  The natural methods can take 6 months to a year to make good progress on the metals.  There are new products which also seem promising. We are currently investigating a product called Metal-Free which is a sublingual, mouth spray.  This is a promising product in that it is very easy to take for everyone, it has minimal cleansing reactions, it works quickly and works on all heavy metals.  We are very impressed so far.

But, you may ask, where does candida come into this?  Well, heavy metals create a very acidic environment in the body and this is an environment in which candida will thrive.  Candida organisms will even eat certain metals, especially mercuy.  Please come back to read more…

Male Yeast Infections

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Yes, it is true. Men can get yeast infections, too!  Usually, the immune system can fend this off, but not always. The symptoms of a yeast infection in males are: soreness, irritation or itching at the head of the penis, white clumpy discharge, red color or white blisters at the head of the penis, burning sensation during intercourse or urination, severe itching or pain, a transient rash, or jock itch.  If you have any of these issues, it is imperative to treat this condition or you will continue to pass it back forth between you and your partner.

The most common way to ”get” a male yeast infection is through sexual intercourse with a vaginally infected woman; however, you may also be susceptible if you have a low immune system (possibly due to HIV), have used a lot of antibiotics, tetracyclines or corti-steroids, or if you have diabetes.  Eating sugar or drinking alcohol may excerbate your symptoms.

There are a number of things you can do to help treat the yeast infection.
1. Topical Treatments: usually an antifungal cream or an over the counter treatment for yeast like monistat.
2. Dietary Changes: Do not eat sugar or drink alcohol as this will feed the yeast and probably make you very uncomfortable.
3. Pharmacuetical Options: If this is a chronic issue or you are very uncomfortable; you may may be able to get your doctor to prescribe Nystatin or Diflucan or some other pharmacuetical choice.
4. Natural probiotic choices: You can take ThreeLac/FiveLac, acidophilus, and eat lots of plain (no sugar variety) yogurts or kefirs.
5. Herbal Antifungals: You can take combinations or one of these antifungals - oil of oregano, olive leaf extract, grapefruit seed extract, pau d’arco, black walnut, or coconut oil.

If you have a resistance infection that does not seem to respond to over the counter creams and dietary changes, you can find more information at Yeast Infections Solutions or Stopyeast.com

Vaginal Yeast Infection

Friday, August 10th, 2007

A vaginal yeast infection will plague 3 out of 4 women in thier lifetime.  Symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection include vaginal discharge (usually cottage cheesy, but sometimes you will see a thin, clear discharge),  internal or external itching or even burning.  You may also see external redness in the vaginal area.  Many women will not even be aware that they have a yeast issue.

The general treatment for a typical yeast infection is an over the counter (OTC) remedy like Vagistat or Monistat.  These are usually 3-5 day treatments and will often work fine for a one time event.  Often, however, women will have more chronic infections that will not respond to the OTC treatments. At this point, they end up in the doctor’s office where they are prescribed DiFlucan (very expensive and very hard on the liver).  The Diflucan may eliminate the symptoms or it may not.  If you are interested in natural remedies for vaginal yeast infections, please take a look at: Solving Yeast Infections Naturally.

Black Walnut

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Black Walnut is a popular herbal remedy for candida.  I do not feel that it is powerful enough (in most cases) to eliminate chronic candida problems, but Black Walnut does have its uses.

Black Walnut is not only antifungal, but it has the side benefit of also being antiparasitic and antiviral.  It will work best for you if you are struggling with candida issues that are above the shoulders.  If you are struggling with oral thrush or sinus issues this may be the herb to use to help eradicate the candida.  I do feel it would be best to use it with another, more powerful, antifungal like ThreeLac/FiveLac or Candex.

What else can Black Walnut do?  It will help internally to get rid of ringworm, amoebas, protozoa, pinworms and fungus. It also acts as a blood purifier for skin eruptive diseases.  It helps to oxygenate the blood, which is beneficial in getting rid of these types of organisms because candida, viruses, bad bacteria and parasites are anaerobic (meaning they do not like oxygen).  Extracts or tinctures of Black Walnut can be used topically on canker sores, cold sores, fungal infections, athlete’s foot, cradle cap, dandruff, eczema, herpes sores, impetigo and poison ivy.  Black Walnut also contains iodine for the thyroid.  It can also be used to balance sugar levels and burn up excess toxins and fatty materials.  All-in-all, it is a pretty handy herb to have around. Again, I don’t think that it is powerful enough on its own to handle a chronic yeast issue, but in conjunction with ThreeLac or FiveLac it could be very helpful in getting you through a candida cleanse more quickly.  You can find a reliable and good quality source of Balck Walnut (capsule or liquid extract) at: Nature Sunshine
